I learned how to swim in the pacific ocean and grew up pretty much a feral child in the wilds of Northern California. I spent many a summer day riding my horse through the redwoods, exploring nature and establishing my bond with the natural world.

As a designer I’m keenly aware of color palettes, proportion and flow. My approach is to collaborate with nature (& you!) to create beautiful, easy and regenerative landscapes that nurture the surrounding ecosystem. As a natural builder and re-use enthusiast, I can offer insight and ideas on natural and pre-used hardscaping materials.

I’m forever interested in the intersection of nature and our emotional bodies and explore these intertwining themes through painting and writing.

I believe getting outside, hands in the soil, head in the sun, has the potential to heal and unite the natural and human worlds, which are of course one and the same.

Annie was such a joy to work with. We had a big rectangle of dirt that we wanted to turn into habitat and sanctuary, and she was able to very quickly tune in to what we wanted and create something beautiful and perfect for our needs.  She created distinct areas, using plants, pathways, and a patio, so that what was once undifferentiated space now feels like our own little park. We spend so much time out there now and get so much pleasure out of watching our plants grow. Annie’s artistic sensibility, her plant expertise and enthusiasm, her availability to answer all our questions, and her overall loveliness as a person made the entire process a fun adventure, and now we have a garden that we are absolutely in love with. Thank you, Annie.

“Annie created the most beautiful desert cowboy-by-the- sea garden we could’ve imagined! She transformed our water sucking yard into a serene, animal friendly, indigenous plant haven. She even added lifestyle elements like a shady pergola, little nooks to relax and a fire pit, taking into consideration our wildest dreams. I highly recommend Annie, who is not only an uber talented landscaper, but also a total delight in every sense!”

Thank you so much for all of the work, time, vision and love that you put into this beautiful cob playhouse for our children. It is so lovely! And charming and magical.. I hope to see more of your awesome work around! And I hope that the world starts to demand more sustainable, living structures. We need them!”

Annie Beedy is a very special plant whisperer! Whenever I see photos of places she has designed and planted, I am just awestruck! The places she touches go from barren lawn to the most lush, beautiful, edible landscapes in a manner of months. She has an incredible gift for intuitively knowing what to do to feed the soil naturally, and in turn the plants. Not only does she have her own incredible intuition, an amazing wealth of knowledge, and a very special artist’s eye, she is an amazing teacher, and cheerleader for encouraging the people she works with to learn to hear and trust in their own intuition. When my husband and I bought a new house in Portland, Oregon on a 1/4 acre plot, I had dreams of creating a food forest, native woodlands, and more. I knew I needed Annie’s eyes, hands and knowledge to help me figure out how to create the garden of my dreams with food for us and food and habitat for all the birds and animals. She showed me how to sheet mulch using found and sourced materials, how to read the land and think about where plants would thrive, and who they would thrive with, and within a few months our front yard barren lawn landscape had amazing sheet mulched beds of growing fertile soil - beautiful islands of fruit trees, fruit bushes, herbs, flowers, and Oregon native plants living and thriving with winding paths and places to sit and ponder. The other day I was in a stuck place and once again she helped me to see and my eyes felt opened. Annie is a really special garden wizard and artist and if you want to create a beautiful garden around your house from which to get joy, pleasure, beauty and food from, let Annie be your guide!

I'd sorely neglected my garden and I'd just had to have someone clear all the dead plants away, leaving a lot of empty space.  Just looking at the space was depressing, and I wasn't sure what to do about it as I'm no gardener.  I saw Annie's website, PermanentCultureProject.com, on the NextDoor app and reached out to her.  She was so kind!  She came to my house to check out my dead space and assured me that there was a lot of potential.  Within a few weeks, I had a garden again!  I was especially impressed that she tailored the design to our specific needs.  We have limited mobility and her design will require the bare minimum of upkeep.  She took into account the climate, choosing plants native to our part of Northern California and that don't require constant watering.  And, finally, she chose hardy plants that factored in the needs of our 95-pound Giant Schnauzer, who runs through the garden every day.  She watched the dog play, noting the paths she took, and designed accordingly.

I thought this would be an arduous process, but Annie made it positively painless.  I feared I'd be shamed for letting my garden get so bad, but she was kind and understanding.

I'm so very pleased and would recommend Annie wholeheartedly!
